GENERAL Parallel computing is quickly becoming the standard computing paradigm in all areas of mainstream computing. This evolution from specialised technologies for handling large and complex applications to standard techniques for solving everyday applications on affordable hardware is revolutionising computing strategies in virtually all application areas. ParCo2003 is the continuation of the international conferences on parallel computing started two decades ago in Berlin. This makes it the longest running European based conference in the area of high performance computing. Over the years the conference has established itself as the foremost platform for exchanging know-how on the newest parallel computing strategies, technologies, methods and tools.

PROGRAM
The scientific program consists of two kinds of
papers, classic and interactive, wich are contributed.
Classic papers are presented in parallel sessions with 20 minutes
available per presentation. Interactive papers are presented in
special sessions through interactive presentations using display and/or video
material, computer presentations, demonstrations, etc. Such contributions allow
authors greater flexibility for presenting working models, etc. An industrial
session and an exhibition of equipment are planned. A limited number of
Mini-Symposia covering particular topics are planned.

|
CONTRIBUTIONS
Contributions in English are solicited.
Extended abstracts of not less than two A4 size pages should be submitted in
electronic form to the conference office by February 14th, 2003 (extended deadline: March 15th, 2003).
Formats can be either Acrobat .pdf or Word .doc. Abstracts should clearly
describe the contents of the paper or Mini-Symposium. The relevance and
originality of the contribution must be stated and the most important
references included. The preferred topic area (section)should also be indicated
and whether a classic or interactive presentation is envisaged.

AIMS AND SCOPE
The aim of the conference
is to give an overview of the state of the art in the developments,
applications and future trends in parallel computing for all platforms,
including grids and clusters. The conference addresses all aspects of parallel
computing, including applications, hardware and software technologies as well
as languages and development environments.
Special emphasis will be placed on the role of parallel processing to solve
real life problems in all areas, including multidisciplinary applications,
practical experiences and evaluations.

TOPIC AREAS
Section 1:
Applications
The application of parallel computers to solve all types of business,
industrial, scientific and engineering problems arising in, for example,
integrated industrial (CIM) and enterprise (EIS) systems; space, earth, climate,
environment and energy systems; biological, genetic and medical applications;
financial systems, etc. The treatment of complex multidisciplinary problems is
of special interest. The parallel processing algorithms and paradigms used
should be clearly described.
Section 2:
Algorithms
Parallel algorithms in the application areas mentioned in Section 1.
The parallel computing paradigm and/or the abstract machine model used
must be clearly described.
Scalability, portability and adaptability of the algorithms discussed are
of special interest.
Section 3:
Software Technology and Architectures
Software engineering for developing and maintaining parallel software, incl.
parallel programming models and paradigms, development environments,
compile-time and run-time tools.
Architectures and operating systems for all types of parallel computers,
including SMP, MPP, cluster and network computers. Performance evaluation and
benchmarking techniques.
