Getting to Aachen

... by train

Aachen is linked to the international railway network. Every two hours, the high-speed train THALYS operates via Aachen between Paris and Cologne. Besides ICE trains rum from Frankfurt to Brussels via Aachen. There are direct connections to the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Siegen, Frankfurt/Main and Hamm. An hourly connection to Heerlen links Aachen to the Dutch railway system. For timetables and tickets see the German Railway On-line Service.

... by air

The nearest airports are Duesseldorf and Cologne/Bonn. From there take a regional train (about 1 to 2 hours). The larger international airports (which might get you a cheaper rate) are Frankfurt and Brussels. From there, there are high-speed-train connections to Aachen (about 2 to 3 hours). The German airports (DUS, CGN, FRA) have their own train station (so you do not waste time getting from the airport to the main train station). For timetables and tickets see the German Railway On-line Service.
  • Duesseldorf (DUS)
Take the "SkyTrain" from the terminal to the train station ("Düsseldorf Flughafen"). There is a train connection to Aachen roughly every 20 minutes, one of them (RE 1) is a direct connection.
  • Cologne/Bonn (CGN)
First go to Cologne main train station (S 13 or RE 8). From there, take any train to Aachen (RE 1, RE 9, ICE, THA).
  • Frankfurt (FRA)
There is at least one train connection to Aachen every hour, three times a day there is a direct connection. Note: Frankfurt airport has two train stations: you need to use the "Fernbahnhof" (long-distance train station).
  • Brussels (BRU)
Note:The last train towards Aachen leaves Brussels at about 19:30 (7:30pm).
